Image
The pressing issue that I am going to cover is Racism. Racism is very commonly overlooked issue as most people take it as a joke and hopefully after reading this you will gave a better understanding of this issue . What is Racism? Racism is the belief that different races possess distinct characteristics, abilities, or qualities, especially so as to distinguish them as inferior or superior to one another. Why I choose this pressing issue? Racism is a serious matter in the world. Racism is a topic that is often overlooked. Racism is something I have seen first hand. It does not only affect the youth but adults as well. Although Singapore is a multiracial country it is still affected by racism and thus i would like to address this issue. Why does Racism exist? Racism exist because there is a belief that people of color are worth less that people who not of colour. This is also a result of many years of traditions as People of colour was treated as slaves and were treated like animals.

Orientation Dap camp 2021

Image
A few days ago my batch planned the Orientation Camp (OC). And on the day of the camp we started with flag break and since it was a day camp we decided to start the games immediately. The first game was a continuation of the activity we did the day before. The scouts learned how to tie a simple stretcher with the basic knots they had learned. After which they played a game called Trivia. In each round a representative from each patrol would be sent to the front of the basketball court. The IC would then ask a scouting related question. The first scout who knew the answer grabbed the dowel would be able to add a load onto another patrol's stretcher. Through this activity scouts would learn more about scouting as well as bong with their patrol members. The scouts carrying the stretcher. The second game was the Amazing race. The race had 6 locations that each patrol had to go to. In each station there would be a game linking to scouting and teamwork. Throughout the race scouts had to

Mentorship

Image
In sec 2 I was asked to be a mentee to my senior, Vanness. I have learnt a lot about not only scouting but I have learnt how to be a better leader and how to be more interactive. Vanness helped me be better at scouting by teaching me some of the lashes i didn't know fully which helped me be more prepared when my batch took over the troop as I knew the lashes and I will be able to teach me juniors the same thing my mentor taught me. He has also helped me be a better leader by giving me opportunities to lead the troop. For example when we went to Batam he allowed me to be ASPL when he was SPL and allowed me to SPL the next day which helped me as the sirs told me what I was doing wrong and I hope to correct these when my batch takes over the troop. Moreover he helped me when I was SPL by guiding me on what to do and how to address the information properly. But the one thing he helped me with that not only will it help me when I take over the troop but it helps me in life, he thought b

Backwoodsman

Image
Yesterday I did backwoodsman cooking. Our batch decided to make a simple meal( Chicken breasts, Potatoes, eggs and sausages) as we had not done backwoodsman for such a long time due to COVID-19. While my batchmates went to buy the ingredients after it got approved by the teachers. The rest of us collected tinder and kindle for the fire. However we later realized that the ingredients that we bought was not halal this our Muslim scouts could not eat or touch the chicken and sausage. After we got lectured that we should be more careful when buying food we started cooking. After we reached the backwoodsman area we starting to dig our individual pits we decided to create a teepee structure. We also washed all the cooking equipment and have the cooking stations prepared. After which we started the fire using a matchstick and tried to sustain by constantly blowing and adding fuel. When the heat was stable we started to cook the food. I decided to start cooking the potatoes as it takes the lon

Literature review

The reason I choose Harry Potter was because the storyline was so intense and complex. Reading through the book, it was often confusing as there were so many plot twists and side scenes that had everything to do with the main plot. The last few chapters of the book were among the best story wrap-ups I’ve ever read an example would be when Harry sees into Snape’s memories and recognizes who Snape really was, why he treated Harry the way he did and yet invisibly helped Harry along the way. After reading what Harry saw in Snape’s memories, there were many flashbacks to certain scenes from the earlier books. These otherwise confusing pieces of the plot finally fit in perfectly; I’m not aware whether Rowling wrote out the entire storyline of her Harry Potter series before she started writing, or if she just came up with the ending when it was time to write the last one. Either way, it was an entirely genius technique to end the book, and it left me feeling like my heart was taken out, beate

My journey as a patrol leader

Image
Around 9 months ago, I was announced as the patrol Leader of Shark patrol as well as the vice-chairman of the unit. As soon as it was announced that I was the vice-chairman, I was overjoyed as I became the Patrol Leader, which was something I wanted since sec 1 as I was inspired by my seniors. I was also very afraid as I had to handle a lot of responsibilities.  As a Patrol leader, I learnt that I should do all the work and instead spread the work among the all the patrol members. I also had to make sure that I checked in on them and motivated them. Moreover as a Vice-chairman i had to assist my chairman  in overseeing the troop and the PLC. There were many problems that we faced as a PLC. One of the problems was the lack of teamwork within the PLC. In our first PLC meeting we had 4 out of the 10 PLC members show up. This was very demoralizing as we thought that everyone would help to create a engaging activity for the online training. As my chairman and I couldn't deal with this

CCA fair

Image
A few days ago we help an annual CCA Fair. However due to COVID-19 restrictions we had to make a lot of changes. We were force to set up simple booths with badges, scarves, tools, a mini pioneering structure, and a simple game. On top of the booths we prepared presentation slides which showed what scouting was about. It also showed an animated video of our unit that was made by some of our seniors. We are were not able to build a pioneering structure as we could not use the parade square. So we wanted to build a small gateway instead. But we decided not too due to logistical issues such as or pole being too tall. So we decided to build a photo booth instead as one of the challenges was to take a picture with the CCA. However due to strong winds the structure fell before the class came. So we were forced to continue with the program without it. \ Me showing the various pioneering structures. The display showed many miniaturized pioneering  structure and some pictures. To show more varie
